It happened a little after Bill Gates decided he wanted a reduced role at Microsoft. So will Bill get all hippy about computing and the Internet? Well not quite, what the planned tie up will do is ‘offer a new tool for easy insertion of Creative Commons licenses into works created with Microsoft Office.’(source)
So you will now have the black and white CC logo in all your documents at work, you can also put it on your resume. Imagine how cool that would be, you won’t have to state that you’re left-liberal anymore, the logo will do the job for you. Anyway the world’s default political leaning is left-liberal, it is another word for ‘Political Leaning? Wat’s dat dude?’. So you’ll be in safe company, there IS safety in numbers.
Now with Microsoft getting CCed, what will Open Office do? Subscribe to the ‘TransCopyRight’ or ‘CopyLeft’ maybe. The whole intellectual property concept on the Internet is getting curiouser and curiouser. You either want credit, monetary or otherwise, or you don’t. If it isn’t that simple, then someone please tell me what it is.
The new intelligent ‘Hit Generator‘ software that are in demand have also opened a new copyright debate. Music composers/producers will now know how ‘inspired’ they are when a tune hits the right note with them. But the software is, after all, just a bunch of codes that will try and identify similarities apart from other things such as scale and musical quality (??). Can it be relied to judge a score for its worth, isn’t music a very human expression? Guess everything will sound like 80’s pop now. Rock me Amadeus.
